« on: March 06, 2010, 11:15:48 PM »
Go on then, give me some pointers, good bad pic's?? over photoshopped? or just right? Never seem to know with pictures, the originals looked ok but ive cropped and added some effects, or have i just made a bad picture worse?

I should say, yesterday was immense went to Afan did the W2 great route, great weather and it was just a great ride out!

Looks good to me (though I'm no PhotoShop critic at all, so wouldn't really know) The sky in the windmill picture looks a little pixelated maybe? That could be my screen though.

Saw the pics on facebook, looked like a fantastic day out!

hi Lee,

nice pics...... I am going to Afan in a few weeks for a long weekend...... arriving lunchtime on the Friday until Sunday afternoon.... thinking of doing the Skyline on the Sat as its a full day then Whites & The Wall on Fri PM & Sun AM - does that sound good? Or is Twrch trail better than White/Wall?

Steve, we got there about 12ish grabbed some food then rode from about 1pm, took about 4hrs to do the W2, whites and the wall route, it was still light till about 6 well biking light.

Would recommend doing the penhydd route as thats a great descent once you get to the top. The trails are a typical welsh trail center climb for what feels like ages then a great downhill. The whites on its own i can do the climb in under an hour and the descent 20mins, and im not exactly the quickest! took us longer to do the W2 as tbh my legs were tried that wall climb took it out of me a bit!

Comparing it to the Twrch im not sure as ive never rode that.

Other than that check out the website as they are doing some trail work over the next few weeks,

If it was me i'd stop at cwm cairn and ride the twrch trail on the way there on the friday, do the W2 on saturday and then penhydd on the sunday before you go, apparantly the skyline has stacks of fire road after it seperates from the whites trail and whilst the final descent is supposed to be good i'm told it's no better than the one on whites, and i'd say it's tough to choose between whites and twrch, both excellent just different.

The riding pic has a couple of technical faults. It's a tiny bit overexposed and lacking in contrast on  the rider, which I suspect is more of a photoshop fault. Bright conditions like that are difficult to shoot in, particularly with the sun behind the rider. You need to underexpose and light the rider with flash to get the best results. Which is quite tricky to get right.

On the plus side the rider is sharp, the wheels are blurred and it's well timed. Good work fella.

I need to go back to Afan, it was possibly the most fun i have ever had on 2 wheels.

the final descent on Skyline can be rode from the very top of the initial hill if you take a shortcut. that descent is an epic one and i managed to finish it without a rear mech. you are looking at a good 6km descent that i didnt need to pedal on at all / couldnt pedal on at all. i suppose i enjoyed it more as it opened new areas of riding, i couldn't put any power down, so had to take everything at speed, including all the corners and drops...

Er... that's the idea even when you can put power down.

Depends where you are riding.

Last time I broke a rear mech was half way around N3rd. The rest of the ride wasn't surprisingly fast nor great fun.
